Getting Started with Mushrooms in Your Garden

Mushrooms are more than a vibe—they’re vital.

They break down dead things. They feed the soil. They connect entire forests through underground mycelial networks. And guess what? You can bring that magic into your own backyard.

Here’s how to start growing mushrooms at home:

  1. Pick your species. Oyster mushrooms are great for beginners. Wine Caps love wood chips. Shiitakes thrive on logs.

  2. Prepare the space. Shaded areas with good moisture are perfect. Some can even grow in garden beds alongside veggies!

  3. Inoculate your material. You can buy spawn (mushroom seed) and introduce it to logs, straw, or wood chips.

  4. Keep it damp and wait. Mushrooms are patient teachers. Check in often and watch the process unfold.

Mushrooms remind us to slow down, decompose what no longer serves, and give back to the soil. Pure medicine.
