What Is Rewilding—and Why Does It Matter?

Rewilding isn’t about making your space wild again—it’s about remembering that it already is.

At Back to Roots, we believe rewilding is more than a landscaping trend. It’s a movement of returning to a relationship with the land, the plants, the insects, the fungi, and ourselves. It means letting go of control and inviting nature to take the lead.

In practice, that might look like:

  • Planting native species that support local pollinators

  • Letting leaves fall and rot (they're not mess- they’re mulch!)

  • Ripping out  your lawn and replacing it with a micromeadow

  • Observing how the natural world moves around you in your space.

Rewilding helps restore broken ecosystems, yes—but it also heals something inside us. When we stop trying to dominate nature and start listening to it, we find we're not separate from it after all.

Whether you're rewilding a full backyard or just a single raised bed, you’re part of something ancient and beautiful. And that matters.
